Game Of Thrones Director Breaks Down Iconic GoT Scene
Game of Thrones fans had MAJOR trust issues after main character Ned Stark was brutally beheaded. Now that episode’s director is dissecting that iconic scene.
Alan Taylor is one of Game of Thrones directors and was at the helm when making Ned Stark’s final episode.
“We thought this was revolutionary television, and we killed our main character and then we started season two. We thought ‘oh sh*t’ we’ve killed our main character,” said Taylor in a Vanity Fair interview.
Although it doesn’t seem like so, killing off Ned Stark was a great way to end season one. It also turned out to be a visual masterpiece if Picasso painted on a budget.
Taylor points out two key things that gets overlooked in the buzzing scene.
Like, the odd yet funny reason why there’s an empty spot in the overhead shot of the crowd. “We couldn’t afford those guys,” said a chuckling Taylor, in the Vanity Fair interview.
Aside from that, Taylor artistically explains other shot choices in Ned Stark’s final scene.
“It’s a scene that started with –Arya- murdering a bird and it ends with the birds are alive and her father is gone.”
Then, explaining why only leaving sounds of heavy breathing shows the severity of the environment.
A lot of season one’s imagery choices came down to one thing. A lacking budget.
However, that all changed once the show rightfully blew up in popularity. Hence the fire breathing dragons and drastic production upgrade.
Season 8 of HBO’s Game of Thrones debuts on April 14th. Until then, fans will have to sit in anticipation for all their medieval obsessions.
