LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JANUARY 31: The Los Angeles Lakers honor Kobe Bryant and daughter Gigi by covering the courtside seats they occupied with flowers, Gigi's #2 Mamba jersey and Kobe's #24 jersey before the game against the Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center on January 31, 2020 in Los Angeles, California. You knew it would be incredibly emotional when the Los Angeles Lakers – sorry, Kobe Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers – returned to the floor for the first time since the tragic helicopter accident of January 26th. The Lakers held a powerful tribute to all nine of the accident victims that focused on Kobe and his daughter Gianna.  If you didn’t see it, here’s your chance to watch the musical parts or the whole thing.  Video of the full ceremony is at the end of this post.

The tribute opened with Usher singing “Amazing Grace.”

At halftime, Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth performed a beautiful version of their song “See You Again.”

It’s been well documented that Kobe and LeBron James were becoming extremely close since LBJ came to Los Angeles, and LeBron threw away his pre-written speech and spoke from the heart (with a four-letter word or two included).

And if you’re inclined to watch the whole ceremony, which ended with each of the Lakers starters wearing Kobe jerseys and being announced as “6-6, 20th year out of Lower Merion High School, Kobe Bryant,” here it is.
