Aimee And Shawn Didn’t Take School Seriously
There are some kids that go to school hit the books daily, on the quest for knowledge, seeking out the title of Valedictorian, and asking for extra credit. Aimee+Shawn were not those people.
Aimee treated her high school years like social hour. Her swim coach once said to her parents that she was treating school like “Camp Bonaventure”. She was voted class clown, she got detention for waiving a “marital aid” through the halls all day. Frankly, she was made for radio.
Things started off well enough for Shawn. He was a “nearly” honor roll student through sixth grade (only missing out because they gave letter grades for penmanship, which is asinine). The second he hit middle school though, it was all over. Math had letters in it all of a sudden. He had a locker and multiple classes he’d visit in a day. He checked out.
These two aren’t alone. Some agree that school really isn’t made for everyone. While some students thrive in the structured environment of school, others are more free-thinkers, mold-breakers and, frankly, bored by what school has to offer.
Aimee+Shawn recount their least favorite classes during our education careers. Aimee hated Social Studies (“I’m not good at maps,” she stated) while Shawn couldn’t stand Algebra or math in general. He failed every year of high school math and had to make it up in summer or night school. He would later go on to get an A in Algebra in college after a teacher taught the class in a different way. Sometimes a teacher makes all the difference.
Did you take class seriously, and if you didn’t what are you doing now? Heck, Aimee dropped out of college and Shawn got an associates degree at a now defunct college. Now look at them! Some people even go on to great success with no college whatsoever!
