Honest Review of New ‘Elvis’ Movie (2022)
When news broke that Austin Butler would be playing the King of Rock and Roll on the big screen, I had high expectations. I knew that I would be seeing the film in theaters and providing my honest review of the new Elvis movie (2022).
I’ve watched Butler excel in many of his projects throughout the years. I remember him nailing his beginning roles on different tv shows. Some of his credits include Hannah Montana, Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, iCarly, and Zoey 101. His appearances were not huge in some of them, but he knocked each role out of the park. He went above and beyond with the characters he was given, and we’ve known for many years that Butler is a natural talent. Fast forward to 2022 and the release of the Elvis movie. Directed by Baz Lurhmann, the film takes the audience through the course of his life, primarily starting at the beginning of Presley’s career.
Priscila Presley said it best when she recounted her experience viewing the movie during her first private screening. Speaking with ExtraTV, Elvis’ ex-wife said, “After I saw the movie it was very emotional, my daughter felt the same way. Only because he got Elvis to a T, I mean to a T. It is unbelievable what this kid did, Austin Butler. He spent two years studying about Elvis, so that was like a shock to watch. Even some of the songs. [A talent manager who worked with Elvis] Jerry Schilling sat next to me, we had a private screening, and I said, ‘Is that Elvis or is that Austin?’ and he goes, ‘No, that’s Elvis.’ And then I go, ‘Are you sure?’ and then about a minute later he goes, ‘That’s Austin.’ That’s how amazing he is.”
Lurhmann’s attention to detail throughout the storyline is astounding. It is apparent that so much thought went into each and every scene of the movie. It’s worth noting that the movie runs a little longer than a typical film. That said, I found myself completely immersed throughout the masterpiece. The longer run-time was no issue. I found myself on the verge of tears as the end credits rolled.
If you are considering seeing the new Elvis movie (2022), you need to run to your nearest movie theater. I left feeling inspired and moved after seeing Butler’s incredible performance. My appreciation for Elvis and my understanding of his career and relationships grew to new heights. My honest review? Do yourself a favor, and see this movie.
