Being In The Friend Zone Is The Worst
The dictionary definition of friend zone is as cut and dry as can be.
“come to regard (someone) solely as a friend, despite their unreciprocated romantic or sexual interest.”
It’s a terrible place to be as the person in the zone, and it’s an awkward place to be for the person placing that person in said zone.
Aimee has admitted to friend zoning a lot of people in the past. Meanwhile, Shawn found himself pretty snugly in that zone over much of his adolescence. But one friend zoning in particular still has him baffled to this day.
Years ago, Shawn met a certain girl who he hit it off with. She initially showed interest but it fizzled out despite his best efforts. She’d date other guys, and hate them, and tell Shawn all about it. Shawn, ever the Knight in Shining Armor, would sit in the car, talk to her and make it known she deserved better. She’d tell him she wishes she could find a guy like him. Gag yet? Yeah. Wait it gets worse.
The years went on, she’d introduce Shawn to her next beau, and the one after that. But it got really awkward one day. See, this girl in particular was living with her dad who had just got engaged to a woman of his own. She moved into the house along with her teenage son. Well… it turns out that Shawn’s crush and the fiancee’s son… they were starting to “date”. At which point Shawn’s head exploded and he was left forever scarred. Doesn’t get much worse than that.
