Things From Our Childhood That Creep Us Out Now
When you are growing up, there are things you take for granted. The people on the television are good, the things you are taught are true, and the there is always a happily ever after. Well, when you grow up you realize a lot of that is…not quite accurate.
Today on Aimee+Shawn we talked about the things we loved when we were a kid that kind of creep us out now. The alternate title for this is “Shawn’s childhood trauma”.
For instance, late-80s to early-90s viewers of Nickelodeon might remember Bill Cosby’s “Picture Pages”. The shorts featured the then wildly-successful comedian with noise-making pen in hand drawing, doing math and teaching us how to be upstanding individuals in the real world. But, watch it today. Especially the episode below. Knowing what we (allegedly) know now about the comedian, and the timeline behind the events he’s accused of, this is smack in the middle of prime-time bad-Bill. Don’t even get us started with “The Cosby Show”. Cliff Huxtable was our dad… and now we all know Theo was the good one.
What about the Disney movie “Blank Check”. Both Aimee and Shawn still love this film, but if you haven’t watched it in a while, give it another watch. Sure, the kid strikes it rich after a jerk runs over his bike and hands him a blank check to get a new bike. Kid commits a federal crime, buys a castle, you know, your typical Disney movie. But… watch a little closer. Preston (the 11-year-old kid) and the smoking-hot FBI agent Shay tasked with finding out about the prior-mentioned jerk have a legitimate love interest in the movie. The freaking KISS at the end of the movie and negotiate when they can go on an actual date.
They agree on “6 years”…which is when Preston is 17. YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! Watch it again! Watch!
The 80s and 90s were a wild time. WILD.
