Man Goes To ‘Footlong’ Extremes, Earns Free Subway For Life
MIAMI, FL - OCTOBER 21: A Subway sandwich is seen in a restaurant as the company announced a settlement over a class-action lawsuit that alleged that Subway engaged in deceptive marketing for its 6-inch and 12-inch sandwiches and served customers less food than they were paying for on October 21, 2015 in Miami, Florida. While it denies the claims, Subway said that franchisees would be required to have a measurement tool in stores to make sure loaves are 12-inches. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images)
There’s not much I wouldn’t do to earn freebies, especially from businesses I really like. Earn a free menu item by following your business’ Instagram account? Done. Sign up for your loyalty credit card? Guilty. Lick the sidewalk? Meh… I’d weigh it out. But yeah, I’d probably do it. (I’m a classy broad. What can I say?) But one man took his dedication to the Subway brand to “footlong” extremes in Las Vegas.
Subway teamed up with Bad Apple Tattoos on the west side of the valley to celebrate the franchise’s new Subway Series menu. The promotional event had visitors lined up to get Subway tattoos in exchange for free subs for an allotted amount of time. I’ll be honest. For free subs, a small tattoo would be worth it to me. We’re talking potentially thousands of dollars worth of free food here. As a big time food-lover, I think I’d get a small Subway tat.
One man took it to the extreme by receiving a 12-inch by 12-inch tattoo of the new Subway Series logo on his back. He waited in line at Bad Apple Tattoos for three days before the event to ensure he was able to receive the tattoo. Why was this so important to him you ask? Getting that footlong tattoo would ultimately earn him free Subway subs for life.
According to 8NewsNow, 8 people received 3-inch by 3-inch tattoos as well, and these individuals won free subs for one year. Personally, I think that’s still too big for me to pursue for the sake of one year’s of Subway sandwiches. Once the one year comes to an end and the flow of subs runs dry, then you’re stuck with a permanent, 3-inch by 3-inch logo on your body for the rest of your life. I totally don’t judge anyone for going full send. But I think I’d be pretty peeved at myself in the long run.
To the man who received the footlong tattoo… Enjoy your free subs! You’ve earned it, my friend!

Who said tattoos aren’t as good as therapy? Oh yeah, no one!
If you listened to me while I was filling in for Aimee on Aimee+Shawn, you might remember my slightly wild tattoo story. Long story short, I bought razor blades at a gas station to use for a tattoo I received in a fire station parking lot. I thought that would be the moment I disappointed my parents forever. But we called my mom on air and she not only liked it, she wanted a matching one!
The day finally came this past weekend. My mom and sister flew into town this past weekend and we all set out for an exciting tattoo adventure. They not only got matching suns on their middle fingers, but we each got a small moon as well. We love them so much, but it has me thinking: when can I get another? And if I do, what should it be?
Many people like the idea of having a tattoo. Modern Gentleman reports that 40% of 18-34-year-olds have one tattoo or more. While there is nothing wrong with showing off a sweet tat, some prefer a tattoo that can be easily covered or concealed. This has made simple, minimalistic tattoos very popular right now. I’m no exception, and the simple design of my sun and moon has only made me want more tiny tats. Choosing what design you want isn’t always easy, though. Some might want their tattoos to have a deep, personal meaning, while others might just want one because they love the way it looks. Both of these are great reasons, and luckily, we have the internet to look to for endless inspiration.
If you’re considering your first tattoo but aren’t sure what to get, here are six of my favorite super cute small tattoo ideas I’ve seen on social media:
