CCSD Bus Catches Fire On First Day of School
I think my most eventful first day back to school simply involved an absurd amount of “first day pictures.” Nothing too crazy. While Clark County most certainly did a fabulous job documenting those back-to-school outfits, CCSD saw a much more eventful first day.
A Clark County School District bus caught on fire on Monday afternoon. Thankfully, no students were present on the school bus when the fire broke out, and there were no injuries. Fox5 reports, “According to Nevada State Police, the bus was traveling westbound on the 215, just west of Hualapai when it caught fire due to mechanical issues Monday about 12:30 p.m.”
The only individual present on the school bus was the driver. As he was driving the vehicle, he started to notice something was off. He then pulled the school bus off to the right shoulder of the road before it went up in flames. Thank goodness! So beyond scary. I’m so glad the school bus driver was alert and aware that something was off, and I’m especially glad he was able to evacuate.
Fuel leaked onto the roadway, which lead to a partial road closure while the mess was cleaned up. During the clean up, westbound traffic was diverted at Hualapai. The closure lasted approximately two hours.
Happy First Day, Clark County… Here’s to hoping day two is much less eventful.

Aimee And Shawn Supply Our Students With S.O.S. Drive
No child should have to worry about obtaining school supplies for this upcoming year.
In Clark County, our children deserve to have the supplies that suffice and exceed their educational needs.
This is why Aimee+Shawn teamed up with Fox 5 and the Salvation Army of Southern Nevada to help collect school supplies with S.O.S.
S.O.S. stands for “Supply Our Students!” And what’s the mission of this project? Well, it’s to raise school supplies by placing donation centers at major places in our community. Along with these donation centers, we also had a huge party to celebrate everyone who donated!
102.7 VGS took over the donation centers on Wednesday, which was at Subaru of Las Vegas (located at 6455 W Roy Horn Way).
If you didn’t make it to this donation drop-off then don’t worry. Our sister stations Jammin‘ 105.7, 107.9 Coyote Country and 96.3 KKLZ will be at other S.O.S. donation centers throughout this week.

Once again, we want to thank all of our listeners who showed up and donated amazing items that our Clark County school children desperately need.
As many of us know, being a teacher isn’t easy. Many educational staff and teachers often have to shell our their own money to buy essential items for their classroom. Or, they’re constraint to budgets that hardly cover anything.
These past few years have also been financially difficult for families. With the pandemic still having an affect on our society and economy, school supplies have become an extra expense that can make the start of the school year even more stressful. This is why we’re committed to helping our students!
Once again, we want to thank everyone who donated! Your contributions are what makes our Las Vegas community so amazing, strong and supportive.
