Thursday might have been an ordinary night for most of us in Las Vegas. But for Las Vegas local Drew, an ordinary night at the Aliante Casino + Hotel + Spa became life changing in a moment.
According to News3, Drew was playing IGT’s Five Play Game at a $5 denomination. After placing a $125 bet, Drew had a royal flush and received the jackpot of $100,000.
Now, I would never say I was unhappy for Drew. I think it’s fantastic that somebody was able to win the jackpot. But while I would never say unhappy, I wouldn’t shy away from the phrase “a tad bit jealous.” I mean, in this economy, who couldn’t use some extra dough? Regardless of how I’m feeling towards the big winner, I am feeling a bit drawn to IGT’s Five Play machine.
According to Boyd Gaming, "Aliante Casino + Hotel + Spa is situated within the Aliante master-planned community at Aliante Parkway and Interstate 215. This resort features more than 200 hotel rooms and suites, five signature restaurants, a 650-seat showroom, more than 100,000 square feet of gaming space, a resort-style pool, and a new 3,500-square-foot spa."
Drew isn’t the only one to win big recently. In fact, Drew’s win at Aliante marks the third major win at a Boyd gaming property within the last month. On July 30, another local hit the grand progressive jackpot on Light & Wonder, Inc.’s Dancing Drums slot machine at Aliante to win over $125,000. The day before that, another player won $340,000 after scoring the Pai Gow Poker regional progressive jackpot.
With big wins happening left and right, not to mention those fantastic amenities at Aliante, I think I know where I’m taking my next vacation. Maybe Drew will go along with me to bring a bit more luck.

Who Should Be On Las Vegas’ Mount Rushmore
95 years ago, sculptors Gutzon and Lincoln Borglum presented to the world their life's work: Mount Rushmore. The tourist attraction just outside Keystone, South Dakota features the likenesses of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
Today, we posed the question: what if we annexed some of the mountain range in Summerlin and made Las Vegas' version of the famed granite monument? You can only feature four faces, and that's it. Can you do it?
There's some controversial figures in the mix, sports figures, politicians, and more. The beauty of Las Vegas is our history is not like any other city's. The mob ran the town and frankly is partially responsible for what you see today. Would you put a mobster on the mountain? How about a non-Vegas born entertainer synonymous with the city? A casino magnate who is responsible for the flair you see on the Las Vegas Strip today, but was ousted in disgrace?
We, along with our listeners, came up with a list of potential candidates. Did we miss any? Do you have a sure-fire four? Comment on our Instagram and let us know!
Elvis Presley

Mississippi born but Vegas renowned, Elvis Presley made the International (now the Westgate) his home and absolutely owned this town until (and beyond) his death in 1977 at the tender age of 42. To this day, 45 years later, Elvis impersonators still grace the city's streets and chapels.
Oscar and/or Carolyn Goodman

Oscar was the Mayor of the City Of Las Vegas for 12 years. Carolyn is on track for the same run. They both did a ton for the city. Oscar came up in the city as a lawyer for known mobsters. It's a tough pick!
Tony Hsieh

The late Zappos founder and CEO founded the Downtown Project in 2012, with a mission to turn around the blighted hub of the valley. His tactics were controversial for some, but he did a lot of good, including moving Zappos headquarters into the old City Hall.
Derek Stevens

Where Tony Hsieh left off, Derek Stevens picked right up, transforming Downtown and playing the role as the face of "Old Vegas", transforming older properties and even opening one of the city's premiere properties in Circa.
Bugsy Siegel
It's a fact. You do not have the Las Vegas Strip as you know it today without mobster Bugsy Siegel. He got control of the Flamingo Hotel and help build what Vegas was famous for: a great time for adults, great food and drinks at a reasonable price. Sure, it was all mob run and people got hurt... but, hey, fun!
Steve Wynn

Controversial, for sure. But he oversaw some of the most revolutionary properties in the city. Golden Nugget, The Mirage, TI, Bellagio, and of course the Wynn and Encore. He was an absolute visionary, despite how things ended for him.
Glen Lerner
You know his phone number by heart. If you moved here, he was probably the first "guy in an ad" that you recalled. We still don't know if his face, or just the phone number, would make the mountain though.
Michael Gaughan
He opened the Barbary Coast at Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo back in 1979, which he built into Coast Casinos. He sold it all to Boyd, and in turn Boyd sold South Coast (now South Point) back to Michael. There are many "lifers" that have worked for Michael for several decades and he's often lauded for keeping the "old Vegas charm" alive in the city.
Frank Sinatra

Today's Strip shortcut was yesterday's Strip star, alongside the rest of the Rat Pack. He was an absolute Vegas mainstay and while he doesn't get the same posthumous treatment as Elvis does with his impersonators, he deserves to be in the conversation.

You were either here for the absolute madness that was the 1990 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Game that had the valley bleeding scarlet and gray... or you're unfortunate.
Mike Tyson

Iron Mike put Las Vegas on the map for his swagger, his punch, and his teeth. While he certainly had his troubles, the Mike Tyson of today has really turned things around. It is a city of reinvention, after all.
Dana White

Las Vegas' real sport is fighting, and while boxing definitely had a home in the valley, it was everywhere. Mixed martial arts, however, lives here. Thanks in large part to the hard work of this guy. He's brash, he doesn't accept nonsense, and he helped build the UFC into a multi-billion dollar entity.
Deryk Engelland

A city was reeling after a vicious attack on locals and visitors alike. Nine days after that morbid event, Deryk Engelland took the mic. The Edmonton-born hockey player had called Vegas home for many years, playing in the minor league, and continuing to live in the valley as his professional career took him throughout the league. His words helped set off a season that the city would never forget.
Wayne Newton

We saved the best for last. Wayne has been in the valley for ages, performing as a youngin' and continuing to impress audiences today. He is the absolute face of Las Vegas and if anyone deserves a guaranteed spot, it's him.
