Las Vegas Population Expected To Explode By 2040
UNLV FORECAST SEES BIG GROWTH FOR SOUTHERN NEVADA
If you think the traffic is starting to get bad now, wait until 2040. That’s what a new forecast from UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research is saying. They expect Clark County to reach a total of 3,000,000 residents – 700,000 more than today, in 18 years. They say during that time, the over 65 crowd will double and the need for healthcare and new hospitals will increase significantly – with healthcare being the second largest industry behind gaming and hospitality by then. That is, of course, depending on whether or not there is any water by then.
SPEAKING OF UNLV, DON’T SMOKE ‘EM IF YOU GOT ‘EM
UNLV’s on-campus smoking and tobacco ban went into effect yesterday. No smoking of any kind including vapes, and no smokeless tobacco products either. The school made the decision to go smoke free in April. Smoking was already banned indoors but this new ban removes it from the menu outside on campus as well. This also includes Thomas & Mack Center. It’s estimated that 12.5% of Americans – 31,000,000 in total – smoke, down from the all-time high of 45% in 1954.
NEW YORK-NEW YORK HOTEL AND CASINO GETTING NEEDED FACELIFT
The rooms at New York-New York are about to get a needed facelift to the tune of $63,000,000. The project will find the nearly 2,000 rooms and suites upgraded in both design and amenities. Rooms will have a very New York feel with faux brick walls and bold colors like Taxicab Yellow and Big Apple Red. The project isn’t expected to be completed until next summer, but newly renovated rooms will start being available to stay in starting in October.
