Austin Butler Might Not Win Best Actor Oscar

Before this past weekend, I thought Austin Butler was a definite shoo-in to win the next Oscar for Best Actor. The Elvis movie took the world by storm this summer, and it immediately became one of my favorite movies of all time. I already loved Elvis Presley, but Baz Luhrmann hit the nail on the head with this one. He did such an amazing job. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film grossed a whopping $147.3 million. With a 94% audience score and a 78% tomatometer score, it’s safe to say that the film is doing well. But I’m not so sure that the Oscar is guaranteed for Butler after the events of this past weekend…
Sunday night, Brendan Fraser received a six minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival for his performance in “The Whale.” He got emotional during the applause, and understandably so. What an incredible feeling, especially after his long break from acting. In the film, Fraser plays a 600-pound man bound to a wheelchair, who teaches English and is working to build his relationship with his daughter, played by Sadie Sink. The film is scheduled to release in the United States on December 9th, 2022.
Six minute standing ovations aren’t just handed out like confetti. I can’t wait to see the film! I’ll admit that it makes me a little sad that Austin isn’t as certain of a choice for the award, but hey. We love competition! And from the sound of it, Butler’s performance as Elvis has certainly met it’s match. In my opinion, the more incredible movies that are out to enjoy, the better!

All The Drama at the 'Don't Worry Darling' Venice Film Festival Premiere
There was much to worry about at the Don’t Worry Darling premiere at the Venice Film Festival Monday (September 5): Florence Pugh and Olivia Wilde kept their distance, Harry Styles kissed Nick Kroll and, apparently, he also spit on Chris Pine.
In a now-viral Twitter video of the co-stars, the former One Direction member, 28, took the empty seat beside Pine, who had director Olivia Wilde on his other side. After the “As It Was” singer seemingly aimed his spit at the 42-year-old actor, Pine froze mid-clap and stared into his lap with a smile before laughing to himself. Earlier at a press conference with Styles, Pine was visibly zoning out while Styles answered questions about the film.
Meanwhile, Pugh was noticeably absent from the press conference due to filming commitments for Dune: Part Two in Budapest, according to Wilde. However, the Midsommar star arrived at the festival before the press conference had even finished — with an Aperol Spritz in hand and seemingly not a care in the world, making it clear that wasn’t the case.
Wilde, Styles and Pugh were not photographed next to each other at Venice, often leaving Pine and co-star Gemma Chan to act as buffers. This led Twitter to wonder if the feud really isn’t over as the actors claim while stirring up another rumor that Styles and Wilde called it quits.
As we previously reported, Wilde denied any beef with Pugh in an interview with Variety, praising the actress for her performance in A24’s Midsommar. “I had been blown the f— away by her,” Wilde shared. “I loved the film, but I loved her. I was just like, ‘Well, she’s extraordinary. She’s clearly the most exciting young actress working today.’”
