Sick Of Election Mail, Las Vegas? Here’s How To Make It Stop
It’s the middle of October and your mailbox is crammed full of political mailers. Every day, you struggle to pry apart the envelopes sticky with glue, only to find more unwanted mail waiting for you inside. You’re so sick of it all! Welcome to living in Southern Nevada during election season.
Southern Nevada is a hot bed of election advertising right now because there are important races for the Senate, House of Representatives, and Governor taking place. In addition, there are numerous ballot questions that will be decided by voters on November 8th. Because so much is at stake, candidates and interest groups have been spending millions of dollars on advertising in order to get their messages out to the electorate.
If you’re like most people, you’re tired of getting bombarded with election mailers every day.
Here’s how to get rid of them once and for all.
- You can vote early to drop yourself from the mailing list. Voting early is a great way to avoid long lines on Election Day. Also, political organizations keep track of who votes, so the sooner you do, the less likely they’ll be to waste postage on you.
- Make your address confidential. You can do this by visiting the Clark County Voter Services website and filling out a form. Mail it in, and you’re set. Once your address is confidential, it will be taken off the publicly available voter roles. This can help alleviate the burden on your mailperson.
- Also consider reaching out to political parties directly, or even Super PACs. Ultimately, their goal is to sway you, not annoy you. So if they can gain favor by striking your address from the books, they may do it.
- If you have access to a time machine, maybe think twice about donating to one campaign or another. As soon as you are a verified “donor”, the flood gates will open. Your mailbox, email and phone will forever be tarnished. At the least, donate anonymously.
- Finally there are services that allow you to strike your address from the books like DMAchoice.org. There you can opt out of credit card offers, catalogs, magazine offers and various other mail. It may not be a sure-fire way to get rid of political mailers. But, it’s worth a shot! For $4 for 10 years, it won’t break the bank.
In just eight days, the election will be over and we can all go back to enjoying our lives without being constantly bombarded with political mailers. Until, of course, next election!
