Summerlin, Beware! Major Intersection Closing For Emergency Repairs
“This Is Summerlin, This Is Home.” That’s the tagline for the master-planned community. Well, turns out it is going to home to a pretty big intersection closure this weekend.
215 and Charleston is “the” intersection in Summerlin. It connects you to Red Rock (the casino and the canyon), Costco, Downtown Summerlin and more. But on Friday night, it’s going to be shut down.
West Charleston Boulevard will be shut down in both directions beginning Friday at 10pm for what Nevada DOT is calling “emergency repairs”. That also means the on and off ramps from the 215 Beltway to Charleston will be closed as well.

Updated hours: Friday, Nov. 4 to Satuday, Nov. 5 (10pm to 10am): W. Charleston Blvd. to close at CC-215 (on/off ramps also closed) for emergency repairs. More details & detours here: https://t.co/i7LgvblZXw pic.twitter.com/DTLVtvti7d
They expect crews to be done in the area by Saturday morning at 10am, but it will still affect some late date night goers, or early dance class goers. Plan accordingly.
Emergency? What emergency?
NDOT said in a press release that, as they often do, the analyze road condition to make sure things (and cars) are going (and driving) smoothly. When they inspected the busy 215/Charleston intersection, they found “greater than expected pavement deterioration” on Charleston. “During the closure crews will mill, pave, and restripe Charleston Boulevard.”
If you’re wondering how to get where you need to go off the 215, NDOT suggests you take the Sahara Avenue exit to the south, or the Far Hills Avenue exit to the north.
Since the first family moved into Summerlin in 1991, the master planned community has exploded in popularity. Today, Summerlin is home to over 120,000 residents with several years of development still to come. It is often ranked as one of the most popular master planned communities in America, and with all that traffic comes faster than expected pavement deterioration!
If you’re us, maybe you’ll just sleep til 10am on Saturday and pretend this never happened.
