When Undercooked Meat Leads to a 911 Call
We’ve all been there. You order your food at a restaurant, which is not quite what you expected. Maybe the chicken is a little dry, or the steak is overcooked. But what do you do when your pork is undercooked? If you’re like one Raleigh, North Carolina woman, you call 911.
The woman in question recently ordered pork from Clyde Cooper’s Barbecue, only to find that it was pink in the middle. Now, any barbecue aficionado knows that this is perfectly normal for North Carolina barbecue. The meat is cooked low and slow over wood coals, which gives it its distinctive flavor and color.
However, the woman was not content with this explanation. She called 911 to report the “undercooked” pork, and then left a one-star review on Google with a picture of her meal. Owner Debbie Holt offered to give the woman a new meal, but she refused and left the restaurant.
Holt says she hopes the woman will come back so she can educate her about North Carolina barbecue. In the meantime, she’s using the situation as a teachable moment for her staff. After all, when it comes to customer service, it’s always important to be sure your employees are on the same page—cooked or not!
When it comes to restaurant etiquette, there are some things that are just common sense. For instance, if your food isn’t up to par, it’s probably best to just speak to your waitress or server about it. Chances are they’ll be more than happy to remedy the situation. However, if you’re really not satisfied, feel free to leave a negative review online—just don’t call 911. Save that number for emergencies only!
