Thanksgiving Dinner Is Going To Cost You This Year
Thanksgiving is going to cost you 15% more than last year. This is according to a new report from Wells Fargo.
First and foremost the main dish, the star of the dinner, that is, my friends, the turkey… The turkey is expected to cost 23% more this year. For a frozen whole hen, we can expect to spend $1.64 per pound. That’s for an 8 to 16-pound hen. If you are hosting a big dinner then you will need a turkey that is about 20+lbs. That will add up for you.
The potato crop was smaller this year at farms across the US so you can expect the price of potatoes to be higher this year too. Enjoy your mashed potatoes a little more this year because of the price it’s going to cost to make them.
So from November to August of 2021, the cost of a Thanksgiving basket at home was up 14.9%.
It may be cheaper to eat out this Thanksgiving if you have a smaller group but you will miss out on the best part… the leftovers after you take that nap.
Exactly how much things have gone up in a calendar year
turkey .. up 17%
butter … up 26%
margarine … up 44%
potatoes … up 17.5%
pies … up 20.4%
alcohol … up 4.1%
stuffing .. up 15.5%
snacks … up 14.7%
flour …. up 24.2%
coffee … up 15.7%
I think it’s best if we take the next couple of weeks and buy things gradually. Get your canned and dry goods now and get the rest later. Then it isn’t one big bill for you a couple of days before Thanksgiving.
At the end of the day, get what you can afford. It isn’t about what is on your plate it’s about who you are with on Thanksgiving.
