Lee’s Discount Liquor CEO Intoxicated At Time Of Fatal Crash
Last year, Kenny Lee, the CEO of Lee’s Discount Liquor, was tragically killed in a car crash. Lee was beloved by the Las Vegas community, and his passing was devastating, having occurred only about three months after the passing of his father, Hae Un Lee, the founder of the Lee’s Discount Liquor chain of stores.
This week, Kenny Lee’s death has has reached an even greater level of tragedy, as it has been revealed that he had a blood-alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit at the time of his death. News 3 reports that Lee was behind the wheel of a white Dodge Caravan driving southbound on U.S. 93 in Elko County on on November 19th, 2021 “when the van veered across the center line and into the opposite lane, Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol wrote in their crash investigation report.”
Lee’s vehicle ran into a Ford F-250 driving northbound, and the former CEO of Lee’s Discount Liquor, who did not have his seatbelt fastened, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The tragically ironic advancement in this story comes with the reveal that the Elko County Sheriff’s Office conducted a “postmortem blood draw.” According to News 3, “The report found that Lee’s heart had a blood-alcohol concentration of .218, well above the legal limit of .08.”
Lee was the CEO of Lee’s Discount Liquor for several years and had played a major hand in growing the business into Nevada’s largest liquor retailer, with 23 stores in Las Vegas, Reno, Mesquite, and West Wendover. He was always seen as an upstanding member of the community, and the Las Vegas Valley continues to mourn his loss.
