When Allegiant Stadium was finished in July 2020, it was the second most expensive stadium in the world. Paid for in part with $750,000,000 in public funds, the home of the Las Vegas Raiders was open for business (at least as open as things could be for 2020). Well, it’s been less than two years and the property is already in need of upgrades in the multi-millions.
The Las Vegas Raiders provided the Las Vegas Stadium Authority a list of 15 items that need to be tackled, to the tune of $7,500,000.
Nearly half of the bill is to expand canopies around the entrances to the stadium. Another $1.3 million would be to add exterior misters around the stadium. Both items are to keep patrons cool and comfortable on those blazing hot summer days.
The grass needs an upgrade too. Over $300,000 is being requested to provide some shade for the natural turf that gets wheeled out of the stadium to protect it from the harsh sun. We are sensing a trend here.
Being on top isn’t easy…
It’s not as though the stadium is struggling for business. Billboard recently named Allegiant Stadium has the number one venue worldwide in regards to billing and visitors. The venue welcomed over 1,000,000 guests over dozens of non-Raiders events through the year.
Allegiant is set to continue its dominance in the next year and change. The re-tooled Pro Bowl gets underway in February, then about a year later the venue will play host to the NFL’s Super Bowl LVIII. That’s not to mention massive concerts from Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and P!nk coming in 2023.
The Raiders are responsible for filling the capital improvements fund and the improvements are part of the lease agreement between the county and team.
