“Armageddon”: Las Vegas School Had Dozens Vomiting In Halls

It's okay to feel a little queasy before a big test. But for the students at Wayne N. Tanaka Elementary School near Maule and Quarterhorse in the southwest Las Vegas valley, it wasn't a test. It was something far worse.
Clark County School District said that last week, a gastrointestinal illness spread through the Las Vegas school like wildfire, leaving several dozen (8 News Now reports it at near 130) kids throwing up in barrels lined up in classrooms and hallways.
In news interviews, some parents recalled their children's harrowing accounts of the mass sickening. One child said their 20 student class was down to about 10 by the end of the day.
Tanaka Elementary Tony Davis had this to say in a letter to parents:
Dear Tanaka Parents/Guardians,
As always, we want to keep you informed of important issues happening within our school community.
The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) is investigating the cause of the gastrointestinal illnesses reported by several of the students at Tanaka. We are currently working with the Clark County School District Health Services Department and SNHD on implementing measures to prevent further illness.
Gastrointestinal viruses are common and easily spread from person-to-person. Symptoms usually develop 12 to 48 hours after being exposed to the virus. Most people will get better within one to three days without medical treatment. Young children, older adults, and people with other medical conditions may be at higher risk for complications, such as dehydration. The most common symptoms include nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Additional symptoms may include fever, headache, and body aches.
Davis went on to describe the best ways to clean surfaces and hands to ensure the spread of the illness doesn't continue.

Here’s What You Missed On Aimee+Shawn This Week
While it was the first full five day week for Aimee+Shawn, it flew by! Weird, isn't it? Maybe a four day work week isn't good after all.
The week got started with an interesting talk Shawn had with a friend from college. He was visiting town and telling him about a woman he had been talking to for a while. The more his friend talked the more red flags Shawn saw. Do you say something, or shut up?!
Aimee felt a bit attacked after asking for a straw at Starbucks. Simple enough request, but apparently the barista didn't like when she did it.
Former Las Vegas Aces star Dearica Hamby came forward saying her recent trade was due to her pregnancy, not her play. That got Aimee+Shawn talking about the inequities of pregnancy and how sometimes even women can be tough on other women.
Aimee made her neighborhood smile recently. Sure, it was by falling on her face, but the commuters around her got a kick out of it.
Philadelphia is an interesting place. First they slather Crisco on light poles to avoid crazed Eagles fans from climbing them, now this. They are actually considering lifeguard applicants who can't swim. For real. WHAT?
TikTok has another dumb trend, but it's one we can get behind. Apparently there is a movement of women who are hunting for their next husband in the aisles of The Home Depot. Not only do we think it's a good idea, Shawn has come up with a great name for the inevitable app!
Oh, and something about Aimee's husband literally watching her die slowly. She recalls the story of when she was choking on something, but her husband didn't jump in and help because of a technicality.
Have a great weekend! We'll be back Monday with tons of fun and getting one person on a sick flyaway to see P!nk! See you then!

Red Rock Canyon Turns White In Las Vegas Snow Surprise
Your eyes do not deceive you! Today the valley got a surprise as the Las Vegas valley, from Red Rock Canyon to Henderson, got a nice dusting of snow that stuck in some areas!
Henderson, which is in a low-lying area, is less prone to snowfall in the winter time. However, today was an exception. Many areas around the city received a solid dusting that stuck to plants, lawns and even roads.
Usually, if any snow reaches the ground whatsoever, it will melt by early morning. But according to Fox 5 meteorologist Ted Pretty, elevations of 2500 feet and above seemed to get the white stuff. The lower the elevation, the higher the temperature, and the more likely the snow would turn into rain.
This isn't the first time this has happened. Only two years ago this month, snow fell around the west side of the Las Vegas valley that accumulated a couple inches in spots.
But to see the snow accumulate in Henderson? That's less common.
Las Vegas snow storms happen from time to time
Every winter seems to sport a scant trace of snow, but a couple snow events really stick in the memory of locals. Back in December 2008, 3.6 inches were measured at the then-McCarran International Airport. The snow stuck and snarled roads, with kids relishing the rare sight and playing in the white stuff. While the airport only received 3.6 inches, parts of the valley were much higher, upwards of 10 inches!
But it was a storm that occurred almost 44 years ago to the day. On January 31st, 1979, the largest recorded snowfall at McCarran International Airport took place. A whopping 7.4 inches had the roads looking like a disaster movie, kids out of school, and a sight to behold in the valley.
Today? Today was just plain pretty. Take in some of the beautiful sights of the snow at Red Rock Canyon and bask in the beauty.
