Just when you think they are out, they pull you back in. According to rumors and reports, the Oakland Athletics are in Las Vegas today to meet with resort big wigs and the commissioner of Major League Baseball.

Obviously they aren’t here for Commish Rob Manfred‘s bachelor party… so now we debate.

We’ve heard that the Las Vegas Festival Grounds at the Strip and Sahara was likely no longer on the table, leaving the Tropicana Las Vegas land as the location of choice. But has another plot of land entered the arena? Rumor has it…

Where else in Las Vegas could the Athletics end up?

This meeting is being held at Resorts World Las Vegas may not be a coincidence. The talks are supposedly being held at the top of the hotel and have a perfect view of 3120 Las Vegas Boulevard. That’s the site of the former Frontier. The location of the expansion of the Wynn (that never happened). The site of the proposed “Moon Resort” (that, let’s face it was never going to happen). It’s just been a bunch of dirt waiting to be molded into something.

While the Festival Grounds land might have been a bit off the beaten path, this is right in the center of the North Strip. Resorts World, Wynn, Fontainebleau and more, all easily within walking distance in a huge shot of adrenaline to the less traveled portion of the most exciting street in the world.

The land may look small compared to the properties surrounding it, but it would hold a pretty decently sized ballpark by today’s standards.

So, after all the talk and conjecture, it looks like at the 11th hour, Las Vegas is once again front and center in the sights of the Athletics. This could…actually happen!
