Feeling “Stressed Out”? Nevada Ranks High Among Most Stressed States
“🎶We used to play pretend, used to play pretend, money. we used to play pretend, Wake up, you need the money.🎶” Twenty One Pilots had it right when they sang about how much stress life brings us as we get older. There are a few places that know it more than Nevada. The Silver State ranks 5th based on new research on America’s “Most Stressed States” from WalletHub.
The research measured several factors including work-related stress money related stress family related stress and health and safety related stress. Few states measured worse than Nevada. Only West Virginia, New Mexico, Louisiana and Mississippi suffered worse fates.
In the work-related stress category Nevada ranked 12th. things like the average hours worked per week, the unemployment rate, and the income growth rate weighed heavily on the research.
Nevada also ranked 12th in the health and safety related stress category. Factors like the number of people fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the number of adults in poor health, mental health, and the number of insured people tipped the scales most.
Money related stress had Nevada ranked 10th, with the median income of Nevadans, bankruptcy rate, and affordable housing playing heavily into the ranking.
Where does Nevada rank worst? Family-related stress, where the state ranked 2nd only behind New Mexico. the methodology that WalletHub used weighed the cost of childcare heavily, with the share of single parents and divorce rate also playing into the mix.
Where can Nevada get a break from all that stress?
If you are looking for respite from the stress, you won’t have to travel far. Utah ranked as the second least stressed state. Massachusetts, South Dakota, New Hampshire and Minnesota rounded up the bottom of the Most Stressed States list.
So the next time you’re looking for a break from the insanity, head north on Interstate 15. Once you see Zion National Park you’ll feel your blood pressure drop.
