Starbucks Making Fun Of Taylor Swift After Breakup
I love coffee, therefore, I am a huge fan of Starbs. But they were taking a little bit of heat from Taylor Swift fans (aka Swifties) because of something they put on their menu after Taylor’s recent breakup with Joe Alwyn.
Some think that Starbucks is using Taylor Swift’s breakup with Joe Alwyn to sell coffee. And as a Taylor Swift fan myself, I can kind of see why her fans are upset but I don’t think they should be as outraged as they are. One Starbucks shop put specials on their menu with all of Taylor Swift’s ex’s representing a specific drink. And once they got word of the backlash they received they quickly took it down. No apology was given, but I also don’t think one was necessary.
One store posted a sign that read; “Which Taylor Swift ex are you?”
- Harry Styles – Hot Vanilla Latte
- Joe Jonas – Dragon drink
- Taylor Lautner – Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Foam
- Jake Gyllenhaal – Decaf Americana
- Joe Alwyn – Hot Chai with Oat Milk
- Calvin Harris – Vanilla Bean Frappe
- John Mayer – Dark Coffee
- Tom Hiddleston – London Fog
Customers today are more aware and conscious of the brands they choose to associate themselves with these days. In a world where social media can make or break a brand, Starbucks may have missed the boat on this one. You don’t want to benefit from someone else’s heartbreak. It is important for brands to remember that they have a social and moral responsibility toward their customers. Swifties are trying to protect Taylor Swift because to them she is not just a celebrity, but also a role model for millions of young girls worldwide. Fans said using her break-up to sell coffee sets a bad example for young girls who look up to her. But I also don’t think Starbucks has a hard time selling coffee, to begin with. And their marketing team is one of the best if you ask me.
