Clark County To Offer Free Swimming Lessons For Toddlers
Attention parents and guardians of toddlers in Clark County! Summer is right around the corner, and our local Las Vegas pools will soon be opening their waters to families looking for a fun escape from the hot, desert sun. And in preparation, Clark County will offer free swimming lessons for toddlers to ensure their safety!
According to News 3, Clark County’s Parks and Recreation Department says the offering of free swimming lessons for toddlers was made possible all thanks to a grant they received from the Southern Nevada Chapter of the International Code Council.
While toddlers can be taught basic swimming skills as early as six months old, you might be thinking, “why?” For families in Las Vegas who are planning to take their young children near bodies of water this summer, these free swimming lessons are a must for numerous reasons.
Safety First
The primary reason for swimming lessons is for your child’s safety. As we know, drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death for toddlers. By bringing your toddler to Clark County’s free swimming lessons, they will be able to develop skills that reduce the risks of drowning. Instructors typically teach toddlers important, critical skills for water safety that could ultimately save their lives, such as how to float and hold their breath.
Physical and Mental Development
Swimming is a fun physical activity that’s great for building muscle, strengthening the heart, and improving circulation. It also supports your toddler’s mental development, as it fosters independence, enhances socialization, and develops cognitive problem-solving skills. Swimming is also great for decompressing from day-to-day stress and improving sleep.
Early Introduction to Water
As early as six months, children have the ability to learn grasping and buoyancy in water. The earlier children are exposed to water, the more comfortable they become with it. It also minimizes the chances of developing a fear of water at a later age!
Lifelong Skill
Swimming lessons are not only important for your child as a toddler but it also nurtures a lifelong skill. Swimming is an activity that your toddler can engage in for many years to come. Who knows… it might just turn out to be their favorite pastime. And hey, they might even become an Olympic swimmer. Why not start them young?
For interested families in the Las Vegas area, registration for Clark County’s first session of toddler swimming lessons will open on Thursday, May 25th. For more information or to register your child, click here.
