Ducks Crossing! Las Vegas Metro Helps Assist Lost Quack Pack
If you remember the scenes on the Las Vegas Strip during the weeks of the pandemic when everything was closed, you remember nature. Ducks walking down the road like they owned the place, and frankly they did. It was a peaceful road for the time.
Nowadays, the roads are once again jammed with cars with little regard for human life, never mind those with webbed feet. So when a Good Samaritan spotted a mother duck and her 9 kids trying to cross the road near the Strip, he wanted to make sure they made it to the other side.
How did Las Vegas Metro help these stranded ducks?
Ofc. Jimmy Velasco and Ofc. Andy Nguyen used the citizen's basket and carefully loaded up mom and babies for a police escort to Sunset Park!

As you can see in the video, the momma duck and ducklings were uninjured and headed off to their new surroundings! 🦆

Officers Jimmy Velasco and Andy Nguyen of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Convention Center Area Command were called to the intersection of Desert Inn Road and University Drive on Tuesday. At the scene, a concerned citizen who just witnessed 10 duckies – a momma and her kids – risk feather and beak crossing the busy street. The officers “hatched” a plan to get them to where they were going.
They placed mom and the kids into the 911 caller’s basket (you never know when you’ll need a basket). Then the family got a free lift to nearby Sunset Park. There, the family was released into the comfy confines of the park and every single duckie was safe and sound. Gotta love a happy ending.
How did these ducks end up in Las Vegas?
Believe it or not, Las Vegas is home to several ducks. BirdAndHike.com actually lists 14 ducks that can be commonly found in the area. Several other species of feathered friends that, while less common, can be found in the area. So “make way for ducklings” the next time you’re barreling down valley streets.
