What’s a summer without a good splash in the pool? Unfortunately, a fun pool day can quickly turn into a nightmare if you’re not careful. As a parent, you’re probably aware of the potential pool hazards, but it doesn’t hurt to get a refresher on some life-saving tips for your little ones. Here are some tips to keep your child safe in the pool this summer.
No Blue Swimwear
This one... Many parents are completely unaware of. Blue swimwear tends to be far less detectable underwater, which poses major risk to toddlers who are not the best swimmers quite yet. You never know what can happen, so make sure you avoid the color blue in the swimwear section of the store.
Get Them LESSONS
This one might not seem as uncommon, but teaching your kids to swim is one of the most important aspects of pool safety and can often be overlooked. If your child can swim, their chances of pool accidents are significantly lower. Consider enrolling them in Clark County's free swimming lessons! A little bit of pool safety training can go a long way.
Invest In Flotation Devices
Flotation devices are lifesavers - literally. The perfect vest or floatation device can help your child stay afloat while they’re swimming. Be sure to choose a device that is suitable for your child's age and weight. Do not rely solely on flotation devices to keep your child safe, though. Remember to always supervise your child.
Develop A Safety Plan
It's always better to be safe than sorry. Develop a safety plan with your child that outlines what they should do in case of an emergency. Teach them how to call for help, where to find a lifeguard, and explain what drowning looks like.
There is no doubt that pool safety is essential, especially when it comes to your child. A good time can quickly turn into a bad time when tragedy strikes. Be sure to follow these tips to ensure that you and your child have a memorable, safe summer. Remember, your child's life could depend on it!
