Drive Overnight In Las Vegas? Road Closures Will Drive You Crazy
Nevada’s unofficial state flower, the traffic cone, is in full bloom throughout the Las Vegas area. There are some overnight road closures happening in the month of May you’ll want to know about if you plan on driving to the airport or on Interstate 15.
Overnight Las Vegas Road Closures
Let’s start at the Airport Connector. The tunnel running underneath Harry Reid International Airport is undergoing maintenance throughout the month. That’ll have traffic down to one lane going to, and coming from, the terminals.
From Monday, May 1st to Friday, May 5th, and again from Monday, May 8th to Friday, May 12th, the southbound lanes of the tunnel (heading away from the airport) will be down to one lane from 11pm to 5am.
Then the following two weeks, the northbound lanes (heading to the airport) get their turn. From Monday, May 14th to Friday, May 18th, and again from Monday, May 21st to Friday, May 25th, it’ll be down to one lane from 10pm to 5am.
But wait… there’s more!
A ton of improvements are planned for Interstate 15 northbound. LED signage is being installed to help commuters get up to date traffic information. Unfortunately they will create traffic with their installation.
On Monday, May 8th at 9pm, the northbound lanes will close between Blue Diamond and the 215, and will remain closed until 5am on Tuesday, May 9th. Then again on Monday, May 15th, northbound lanes will be closed, this time at Russell.
That’s not to mention the repaving going on for Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix and the myriad of other traffic-creating improvements happening throughout the valley. One day the Las Vegas road closures and orange cones will go away. If we keep saying that to ourselves, we’ll get there. Have hope.
