The Italian Pasta Strike is Here; We Aren’t Kidding
When we think of Italy, we think of beautiful architecture, delicious pizzas, and of course, pasta. However, news has come out stating that due to inflation pasta prices continue to increase. Italians are outraged and now there is a pasta strike is here and scheduled for June 22nd. The thought of not having pasta on our plates may be off-putting for some, but for the Italians, it’s a way to send a message and make a change.
Pasta prices have continued to rise, and it’s becoming almost unaffordable for the locals. To put things into perspective, prices have gone up by 20% since last year! For many, pasta is a staple food that they rely on, and soaring prices leave them with little to no choice in the matter. Hence, it’s not surprising that some Italians chose to protest and call for a pasta strike.
The pasta strike is the newfound Italian way of boycotting goods. The demand for pasta is what makes the wheels of the industry turn, and what happens when that demand meets supply with skyrocketed prices? A pasta strike happens, that’s what. Furio Truzzi is the leader of the group that is calling for the strike. He explains that the strike is to see if keeping pasta on the shelves will bring down prices, in the great Anglo-Saxon tradition of boycotting goods. It’s a way for the people to let their voices be heard and make a statement. I stand with Furio! I want cheaper macaroni.
The pasta strike scheduled for June 22nd is more than just a strike; it’s a message of hope and demand for a better future! We all can agree that inflation is getting a little annoying. Bring it all down.
