Las Vegas Is Getting A New, High Flying Sport: Slamball
Las Vegas went from “no pro sports teams will come here” to “Las Vegas gets everything” in six years. While the Las Vegas Aces and Vegas Golden Knights are currently champions in their leagues, the Las Vegas Raiders and Vegas Vipers are… trying. Plenty of other teams are throughout the valley… but what about another sport? It’s been around for a while, but is not widely known. Slamball is back, and it is coming to Las Vegas.
What the heck is Slamball?
Slamball is a mix of a few sports. You’ve got the obvious parallels with basketballs. They are playing with a basketball, with two hoops. Then add in the football element of being able to be leveled by defenders. Then add some trampolines and you’ve got an NBA Jam level experience that will blow minds.
The sport first reached televisions back in 2002 when the league made its premiere on the now defunct Spike network. The game was both familiar and foreign, with bodies flying high in the sky, massive dunks and hits being levied. It was… something. But it didn’t last long. The Spike series was canceled in 2004. NBC Sports Network, CBS and Cartoon Network of all places had their moments with the brand, but it faded away. That is, until now.
Slamball is coming to national television from Las Vegas…
Slamball hadn’t uploaded a YouTube video to their account in 7 years… but recently the league rose from the ashes with a massive announcement. The league is back, it premieres on The Worldwide Leader™ ESPN on July 21st, and the games are happening at the Cox Pavilion right here in Las Vegas. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, June 27th.
The league is coming with fire this time around, including some major investors. Millions in investment came from the likes of NBA all-star Blake Griffin, Gary Vaynerchuk and others who have put down their hard earned money on major sports franchises in the past.
Here’s a preview of what to expect in the skies at Cox Pavilion next month…
