Netflix Controversy – Streaming Titanic Poor Timing
Netflix has recently announced that they will be streaming the blockbuster hit movie ‘Titanic’ on their platform starting July 1st. However, this news has been met with outrage and controversy due to the recent Titan submarine disaster. Many people are wondering if it is appropriate for Netflix to capitalize on the tragedy of the submarine accident by streaming a movie about the Titanic.
On one hand, there is the argument that streaming ‘Titanic’ on Netflix in the wake of the Titan submarine disaster is insensitive and downright disrespectful to the victims and their families. People have taken to social media to voice their outrage and disbelief at Netflix’s decision. Some have even called for a boycott of the streaming service.
On the other hand, there are those who don’t see the big deal with Netflix streaming ‘Titanic’. They argue that the movie is simply a work of fiction and is not meant to disrespect the victims of any tragedy. Furthermore, they argue that Netflix has the right to stream whatever movies they want, and that people are free to choose whether or not they want to watch it. After all, ‘Titanic’ is a classic movie that has been streamed on many other platforms before.
I really think the issue here is more about timing than anything else.
It’s possible that Netflix made the decision to stream ‘Titanic’ on their platform without realizing that it would coincide with the Titan submarine disaster. It’s also possible that they did know but thought it wouldn’t be a big deal. Either way, it’s clear that the decision has caused a lot of controversy and has upset a lot of people.
What do you think about the timing? Will you boycott Netflix?
