Las Vegas Valley Will Grow With BLM Land Sale
If you were born and raised in Las Vegas, chances are you’ve seen a lot of growth. Since 1990, the valley’s population has nearly quadrupled. Summerlin was an infant. Excalibur was cool! Well today, the valley is busting at the seams, butting up to BLM Land.
Well, the Bureau Of Land Management is getting ready to “give” Clark County more land with a land sale planned for November. A few areas in the valley could be getting a bit more company.
How BLM Land works and how it affects Las Vegas
It’s weird to think that the valley is “running out” of land, but that plot of dirt over there? Chances are it belongs to BLM. The bureau, and in turn the federal government, own nearly 80 percent of the land in Nevada. So when you see Nevada’s state borders, know the actual area in state control is a small fraction of that. The rest is for the feds to determine what to do with.
BLM and the U.S. Department Of The Interior actually manage 10 percent of all of the country’s land. Nevada, however, is their biggest claim. The bureau says they ensure “razing, mining and energy development on public land are sustainable and compatible with other land uses.” In other words, making sure no one is acting a fool.
The issue is they own land right up to the border of the valley, as well as small plots within the valley. Now you know why some dirt exists in between existing communities.
Where will the Las Vegas Valley’s boundaries grow?
If you live in the northwest, southwest and part of Henderson, get ready to loosen your borders. 17 parcels of land will be sold off with more than half in the northwest valley near the 215 beltway. There will also be land for sale around Kyle Canyon Road on the way to Mount Charleston.
In the southwest, Mountain’s Edge will be getting new neighbors with parcels being doled off near Blue Diamond Road/NV-160. There’s also a parcel of land up for grabs in the Inspirada neighborhood in Henderson.
The BLM land sale is set to take place November 1st after a public comment period which is underway right now.
