Nearly Half Of Young Adults Say Marriage Is ‘Outdated’: Report
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Ayden in a baby carriage. At least, that’s the thinking of past generations. In a new study by Thriving Center of Psychology, it turns out Millennials and Gen-Z aren’t nearly as wrapped up in the tradition as their ancestors and call the whole premise outdated.
Over 900 people aged 18-42 were surveyed and lets just say that marriage is divorced from many of their realities.
Marriage outdated? Why do they say that?
The vision of “perfect,” the 2.5 kids and the picket fence, has certainly changed throughout the years. The report found that 41 percent of men and, surprisingly, 52 percent of women considered marriage to be an outdated tradition. The vast majority of those surveyed said it’s unnecessary. 85 percent of those surveyed said it isn’t a crucial part of being in a fulfilled and committed relationship.
Obviously there are the societal pressures of getting married, but it seems like those are fading away too. 38 percent of people said they have felt judged for not being married yet.
While 83 percent of those surveyed say they are hoping to get hitched one day, nearly three quarters said they aren’t interested in getting married right now.
Why do so few want to get married?
When it comes to getting wed, it comes down to cash money. While many consider it to be unnecessary, nearly three quarters of respondents said it’s too expensive to get married.
The lack of marriage doesn’t mean the lack of getting close to one another. Over half had moved in with their partner after dating for a year or less… but part of it was due to necessity with about half saying they moved in due in part to finances. Heck, if you’re planning on spending the night anyways, may as well!
Despite all of the stats that aren’t so hot on the premise, this is the most interesting stat of all. 83 percent of those surveyed are hoping to get married today, despite many of them thinking its outdated. Peculiar… but societal pressures will do that to you!

Las Vegas
Leave it to Las Vegas to rank at unlucky number 13. But that’s still a pretty great ranking and lots of people love tying the knot in Sin City.
Reno
Not too high on the list but it did rank number 72. However, Reno ranked high for venue access.
Henderson
Not the best but not exactly the worst is Henderson. It ranked 133 on the list. It could be due to its lack of professional services and venue access scores according to the study.
North Las Vegas
Second to last on the list is North Las Vegas 199. Unfortunately, that makes it one of the worst for outdoor wedding venues.
