Locked Out: Players Locker Shut Down At Downtown Summerlin
It was February 2020 and COVID was just a thing happening elsewhere. At Downtown Summerlin, a Wolfgang Puck restaurant rebranded in partnership with several Golden Knights. Well, COVID came, many of those Golden Knights left and now Wolfgang Puck’s Players Locker is shut down.
The writing was on the Players Locker wall
The restaurant, known for slightly higher end sports fare, shut down after Sunday night’s service according to Eater. The shut down, while expected by staff, came sooner than expected.
One tell was the imagery around the restaurant, featuring pictures of Wolfgang Puck himself posing with several Golden Knights who joined him in the project. Among them? Alex Tuch, Deryk Engelland, Reilly Smith, Shea Theodore and William Karlsson. Now Alex is with the Sabres, Reilly is with the Penguins, Deryk is off the ice and the concept has perhaps run its course.
Players Locker had decent reviews online with a 4.2 on Google and 4 out of 5 on Yelp, but Wolfgang’s restaurant empire has bigger plans.
What’s next for this Downtown Summerlin restaurant location?
Much like the project before it (which we totally forget), Wolfgang Puck is holding onto the property and reimagining the space. This time, Downtown Summerlin is getting a taste of the Strip.
Lupo by Wolfgang Puck at Mandalay Bay serves up Italian food and pizza in a higher end style. Soon, that location will be shutting down to make way for a new concept of its own. However, Lupo will live on in the Players Locker space according to Eater.
Downtown Summerlin restaurants come, Downtown Summerlin restaurants go…
The dining scene in Downtown Summerlin is delicious and is changing very often. Andiron, a project by Honey Salt creator Elizabeth Blau, closed down a few years back. Harlo Steakhouse & Bar is in its place. Fogo de Chao didn’t last long at DTS. Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken was outstanding but eventually went the way of the others and made way for the current La Neta Cocina y Lounge.
There’s a lot of competition so the restaurant area at Downtown Summerlin can expect to be in a state of constant flux.
