Want Free WiFi? Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Can Help
If you’re reading this right now, you have access to internet. Congratulations! Unfortunately not everyone is so lucky. Thankfully the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is working to fix that for free thanks to a grant and partnership with Cox WiFi.
Up to 50,000 households will be eligible to connect to Cox Virtual Hotspots which are “virtually” everywhere. The one downside is you typically have to be a Cox subscriber to get access to them. But not so with this new program.
How can I get free WiFI from the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District
There are only a few checkboxes that need checking to get the deal.
Firstly, like most fun things, you need to be at least 18 years of age. Can your parents tell you what to do? No? You’re good.
Next, you have to be a physical, card carrying member of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. If you don’t have a card, it is easy. If you live in Clark County you can get one. The digital cards won’t work for this though. You need the real deal.
Finally, you need to need it. You can’t already have internet access at home, and you need to have it for your school or work. If you meet all the criteria, you will be able to get free access to the Cox WiFi network through next June 2024.
The need for internet access is larger than you think
According to recent data, around 1 in 5 American households do not have internet access at home, and around 1 in 5 of them blaming the cost of access as the barrier for them. The result for students is their education can take a big hit. For workers, they are destined for jobs that are not connected and often pay less.
While getting connected doesn’t fix everything, it helps to somewhat level the playing field.
