WWE Raw No Longer On Cable
In a groundbreaking move, WWE Raw is set to leave traditional cable networks behind and make its way to the streaming giant Netflix in January 2025. This is a significant shift in the entertainment landscape, proving to everyone that even long-standing cable favorites are seeking refuge in the vast world of digital streaming.
The 10-year deal between WWE and Netflix is reportedly worth a huge $5 billion, showing the power streaming services have. This move honestly raises even more questions about the future of cable. Because we are not news people, the only thing we watch on cable is sports. If sports go to streaming services (which some already have), and you still have cable you will probably ditch it too.
Over the years, cable television was it. Having cable was the norm. Cable provided access to a ton of channels and programs. But now, as the digital age and streaming services continue to reshape the way we as consumers get our content.
Streaming services used to be extremely affordable when cable was so expensive for 100s of channels that you didn’t watch and 3 that you did. But let’s be honest… as time goes on the streaming services are getting pricey. I guess they needed our money to move WWE Raw to Netflix’s library.
The WWE deal also shows us the financial power of the streaming services. Netflix, along with other major players in the streaming industry, has been investing heavily in exclusive content to attract new subscribers. Just like Peacock did with the NFL this year. They had 2 exclusive NFL games this year. One regular season and one Playoff game. For die-hard football fans that was a no-brainer. Either you subscribed or went to a friend’s house that subscribed.
The migration of WWE Raw to Netflix is not just a business deal… it shows the evolving entertainment industry. What does this mean for cable? Does this mean they will drop prices to try to compete with the streaming services or lay down and die and if they lay down and die what does that mean for news and sports watchers? Only time will tell.
