There are so many options for chicken wings in Las Vegas. But, we recently discovered a new style of wings that are super crispy and heavenly.

There's nothing quite like biting into a crispy chicken wing to cure any midday blues. It's the perfect drunk food, they're delicious when sober and they fit any occasion.

Many of us are use to the traditional American wings that Buffalo Wild Wings, Wing Stop and other fast-food wing places serve. Often coated in lemon pepper, buffalo sauce and other savory drippy sauces, American wings are undoubtedly delicious. However, there's a new type of chicken wing in Las Vegas that may blow your mind.

Our Favorite Chicken Wings In Las Vegas: Chinatown Edition

Korean chicken wings have stolen the gold medal on the chicken-wing podium.

Our favorite few Korean chicken wing places in Las Vegas are:

  • bb.q Chicken Las Vegas, multiple locations
  • Ok Chicken, located at 6850 Spring Mountain Rd F06, Las Vegas, NV 89146

  • Dragon Bowl Korean Fried Chicken, located 6680 W Flamingo Rd #12, Las Vegas, NV 89103

We recommend trying all of them at least once. Each Korean chicken wing spot offers different side dishes, and they have their own in-house sauces that add another delicious layer to the perfectly crispy fried chicken.

What Makes Korean Fried Chicken Wings So Special?

When my Korean mother makes her own fried chicken, she says the batter is what makes all of the difference. Hopefully, she doesn't get too mad that I'm sharing her secrets. But, my mother's tired-and-true Korean fried chicken recipe uses potato starch. The coating of potato starch allows the chicken wings to become extra crispy without getting soggy.

Along with her recipe, other Korean fried chicken recipes often use potato starch and baking powder before plopping them into the fryer. The other secret for Korean chicken wings is the double-frying technique.

After frying them once, you coat the wings in your favorite sauce (I recommend a soy garlic sauce that's more like a glaze), and then you fry them again. This almost sucks the moisture from the chicken, creating a perfectly crispy coating of chicken skin that's just divine. You can read more on the reasoning behind the double-frying method here.

Maangchi, the YouTube queen of Korean cooking, has an amazing recipe for Korean fried chicken that's been replicated, used for inspiration and tested across the internet. My mother's recipe is based from her recipes, which you can find here.

We recommend trying the places listed above! Korean fried chicken can just make life more pleasant. They're delicious morsels of of fried perfection with a beautiful sticky sauce that's salty, sweet and incredible for your taste buds.

7 Places For The Best Tamales In Las Vegas

If you're looking for the best tamales in Las Vegas, you probably don't have to travel too far. We have so many great places in town for Latin cuisine. But because there are so many, narrowing the best one down to just one restaurant would be nearly impossible. In fact, we had a hard time narrowing it down to seven. Because when it comes to food of any origin, Las Vegas is unmatched.

The Secret To The Best Tamales In Las Vegas, Or Anywhere

There are many reasons to celebrate tamales this month. March 23 is National Tamale Day. And March 23 through March 24 is the Tacos and Tamales Festival at Desert Breeze Park in Las Vegas. But the great thing about tamales is that you could eat them everyday and still not have enough.

There are many different varieties of tamales. But all traditional ones are made with that soft corn dough, called masa. Which is then rolled inside a corn husk. What the masa is stuffed with depends on where you get the tamales and who is making them.

Some are stuffed with beef or green chiles. Others with cubed chicken and corn, or black beans and cheese. I've even had a tamale with lobster meat inside. My favorite, hands down, is any tamale with mole sauce. Yum!

No matter what filling is added to the inside of a tamale, the secret to getting one that is moist and delicious is twofold, according to tastingtable.com. They say that adding the cooking liquid back into the tamale, as well as soaking the corn husks prior to assembly, is what makes the difference between a perfect tamale and one that's too dry.

A Quick Note About Tamales

Although tamales are widely considered as Mexican food, they are actually believed to have originated in Mesoamerica. Which is the land that is between North and South America. And different cultures in both South and Central America have adopted their own way of doing them, according to spruceeats.com.

If you're like me, you might just let yourself believe that there is some magical tamale plant somewhere that grows tamales exactly the way we see them when they're finished. Obviously that's not the case. They actually take work. If you're curious about just how a tamale is made, check out this video that sums it up pretty well.

Between restaurants, food trucks and corner carts, we probably have more places to get tamales than we have casinos to gamble at. And that can make it even harder to find the best tamales in Las Vegas. So we did the work of eating a lot of tamales for you (you're welcome...and thank you) to find what might just be the best tamales in town.
