Lake Mead Boulevard Project: New Roadwork For Las Vegas
Ah, you guessed it. Even more road work is headed to our Las Vegas streets. But the good news is Las Vegas residents who frequent Lake Mead Boulevard can expect a smoother ride in the near future. The cities of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas are joining forces on the Lake Mead Boulevard Project, a major undertaking set to begin later this year.
Lake Mead Boulevard Project… Why?
If you’ve driven down portions of Lake Mead Boulevard, you might be asking yourself, “Why are they doing roadwork on Lake Mead? It doesn’t seem so bad compared to some of the other roads in town.” Well, that may be true. Not all of Lake Mead Boulevard needs attention. But certain areas are definitely in desperate need. That is why the Lake Mead Boulevard Project will specifically target the portion between Simmons Street and Losee Road. According to 8 News Now, the project will focus on the addition of new pavement, sidewalk ramps, additional bike lanes, safety upgrades, pedestrian crossings, and lighting.
How Long Will It Take?
One of the biggest headaches when it comes to road work is always the length of the project and the corresponding traffic delays. If you are thinking this is going to be a timely, brief stint, think again. The project is slated to begin later this year in 2024 and is scheduled to last approximately 18 months. Yep – we’ll be in 2026 before the Lake Mead Boulevard Project is finally completed and the east-bound and west-bound lanes are back open without delay again.
However, we as local Las Vegas drivers know that this project is well overdue, and it will be well worth it when it’s all said and done. With a focus on safety, accessibility, and aesthetics, this project is sure to create a more livable and enjoyable experience for residents who frequent Lake Mead Boulevard.
