Since the Friday (March 29) release of Beyonce's Cowboy Carter, the Beyhive has been posting their favorite songs from the album. Hailey Bieber considers herself to be a member of the Beyhive, posting on her Instagram Story, "Jolene." Adding to the screenshot of the song, the Rhode Beauty founder added: “whew [puffing nose emoji].”

With Beyonce's version of the Dolly Parton 1974 original, Bey's lyrics change from: "I'm begging you, please don't take my man" to: "I'm warning you, don't come for my man." She also changes "Please don't take him just because you can" to "Don't take the chance because you think you can." Dolly's "Jolene" was about a bank teller who had a crush on her husband. She said her husband "just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. It was kinda like a running joke between us – when I was saying, ‘Hell, you’re spending a lot of time at the bank. I don’t believe we’ve got that kind of money.'”

For Beyonce's version, one fan on X (formerly Twitter) posted a clip of Bey and Jay-Z at a 2019 basketball game, saying the song was written about this moment. In the clip, Jay-Z notices someone in front of him and waves. Beyonce also waves, then her eyes shift, and her smile fades. The shoulder bump at the end lets fans know she was truly upset at this moment.

Before "Jolene" plays on the album, Parton did an interlude on track 9 titled: “Dolly P.” She says, “Hey, Miss Honey B, it’s Dolly P. You know that hussy with the good hair you sing about? Reminding me of someone I knew back when, except she has flaming locks of auburn hair, bless her heart. Just a hair of a different color, but it hurts just the same.”

Fueling the fire of presumed obsession between Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber, fans reacted to Hailey's Story on X. One person commented, "again initiating the drama and we're supposed to believe she's the victim pls..." Another stated: "jobless woman who is still obsessed with her husband's ex and they wonder why people don't like her." A third wrote: "her whole existence is about selena gomez [crying emojis]." One person said, "Free Selena from this obsessed insecure woman." Wrote another, "Hailey telling people to stay away from her man as if her man isn’t already more used than the key holes of her uncle’s jail cell." Another person said, "Hailey Bieber is living proof that you can have the whole man and still be miserable and obsessed with the ex."

Another person stated: "never forget when kendall jenner and gigi hadid took selena to dubai to celebrate new years so hailey could easily get with justin. makes this post very ironic because the real jolene is right in front of our face."
