Drop The Trop: Date To Destroy Tropicana Las Vegas Set
On April 2nd, just two days shy of its 67th birthday, the Tropicana Las Vegas casino hotel will close its doors. Decks will stop shuffling. Slots will stop flashing. Chips will get cashed out. Before the land can be transformed into the new home of the future Las Vegas Athletics and a new Bally’s casino, they must demolish the elder property.
The Plan To Destroy Tropicana Las Vegas Might Be Slow And Painful
Usually in Las Vegas, properties go out with a bang. Massive implosions with thousands watching from every vantage point imaginable. But unfortunately it appears as though when they destroy Tropicana Las Vegas, they might be going slowly.
In an interview with the Las Vegas Review Journal, Soo Kim, chairman of Tropicana Las Vegas owner Bally’s Corporation, confirmed the tentative plan for demolition. They have penciled in October as the date for demo.
While they didn’t rule out imploding the property, there is the issue of the property being so close to Harry Reid International Airport. You can’t just blow it up. You need permits. The massive dust cloud that the property’s implosion would be sure to create would be bound to mess with flights arriving and departing from LAS. We are still holding out hope they can make it happen though.
Bally’s And Baseball To Rise In Its Place
While the Tropicana certainly did its thing over the last six decades, it was certainly a bit long in the tooth. Bally’s Corporation bought Tropicana Las Vegas back in 2022 with an eye toward the future. Bally’s Corporation is not affiliated with Caesars, so now you know why Bally’s turned into Horseshoe down the street.
Bally’s will return to the 35 acre site with a new casino resort. The southeast corner of the property will feature the new home of the Las Vegas A’s.
While we hate seeing the amazing property leave, we could love to watch them destroy Tropicana if it is another legendary Las Vegas implosion. Here’s hoping they can make it happen.
