Las Vegas Electric Scooters Hit Streets Without The Mess
Get ready to go two-wheelin’. Las Vegas electric scooters are here and it looks like we are getting a taste of the on-demand rental world without the trouble of prior cities.
Electric Scooter Rentals Were Fraught With Issues
It was like a joke that we only kind of got. When South Park parodied the scourge of electric scooters taking over major metropolitan areas of the United States, it was something we could only envision. After all, we really hadn’t seen it in the valley like in Los Angeles, San Francisco and elsewhere.
Some were just left in parks, while others blocked sidewalks. Heck, in Portland, Oregon people were literally throwing them in the river just because. New school cow tipping.
Obviously that sounds like no fun for any major city. While there are laws in place for the on-demand rental businesses to operate in the state, there were really no takers. Until now.
Las Vegas Electric Scooters Improve The Concept
Unlike the Bird and Lime scooters of the past, Go X takes more of a “clean up your room or else” approach. While it isn’tĀ asĀ convenient, society has proven it can’t handle too much of a good thing.
Go X partners with local businesses to act as the “parking lot” for rental scooters (and other tiny electric rideables if they want). The business gets a cut of each rental. Not too shabby.
Speaking of the rental, it costs $1 to pick up the rental, and $0.88 (Great Scott!) per minute to rent it. But you got to bring back that rental to one of the official Go X stops. If you don’t you could get slapped with a fine upwards of $100. That’s a nice chunk.
Kind of like the “get your quarter back when you take back your cart” situation. Be responsible and this will cost far less.
While only 100 of the electric scooters are in town at the moment, Go X is looking to increase that ten-fold in the coming months. Using responsible policies like not allowing the scooters out of certain zones, slowing them down on certain stretches and more, we think this could be the sane step towards city scooters.
