Bee Attack Safety Tips
It was a scary night for a father and his daughter at Mountains Edge Park here in Las Vegas. They were attacked by a swarm of bees leaving the park. They were stung over one hundred times. If there was a bee attack what should you do?
Talk about unlock new fear. As soon as I read the story reported by Fox5 I had to figure out what to do if that happens to me or my kids one day. It’s important to know how to react in such a situation.
I have to start by saying that the attack happened quickly and the bees were relentless. You are probably like me and this dad who told his daughter, ‘They won’t bother you if you don’t bother them’. Unfortunately this time it just wasn’t the case.
They did manage to escape the swarm and drive directly to the hospital but not before getting stung one hundred and thirty times. Luckily neither of them was allergic. This is a reminder of the potential danger that bees can create.
So, what should you do if you find yourself in a similar situation, facing a bunch of angry bees? Here are some essential tips to help you stay safe according to National Park Services.
Bee Attack Safety Tips
- Remain Calm: Stay calm but also get the heck out of there as soon as possible. If one bumps you it’s telling you to leave NOW.
- Cover Your Face and Head: Use clothing or your hands to protect your face and head, as these are the most vulnerable areas to bee stings.
- Seek Shelter: If possible, seek shelter indoors or in a vehicle. Bees are less likely to follow you indoors.
- Do Not Swat or Crush Bees: Swatting at bees or crushing them can release alarm pheromones, signaling other bees to attack. Instead, try to gently brush them away.
- Get Medical Help: If you’ve been stung multiple times or are experiencing symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek medical attention immediately. Bee stings can be life-threatening for those with severe allergies.
- Avoid Strong Scents and Bright Colors: Bees are attracted to strong scents and bright colors, so avoid wearing perfume or brightly colored clothing when spending time outdoors.
By following these precautions, you can reduce the risk of encountering a similar ordeal to that of the father and daughter in Mountain’s Edge Park. Let their story be a reminder of the importance of respecting nature and being prepared if there is a bee attack.
