Las Vegas: A New Jury Scam To Watch Out For
They are out there, and you never know where they are coming from. But there is a new “jury” scam that’s hitting Las Vegas. The Mike & Carla Morning Show read about this a couple of days ago after it happened to a woman in Florida.
A Florida woman got scammed for close to $7,500. That is a chunk of change, right? The scam is simple, you get a phone call asking to pay money for missing jury duty or you get arrested.
Here’s how the story broke according to News4JAX in Florida. The report gives you an idea of how it all goes down. However, after talking about this story and wondering if this scam had hit Las Vegas, The M&C Morning Show got a call saying it had!
New ‘jury’ Scam To Be Aware Of In Las Vegas
A listener called in after hearing about it and said that he got taken advantage of for about $140. According to this guy, the trick had made its way out to Las Vegas. So, heads up everyone.
What made this story even more bizarre is that just after talking about it, Mike O’Brian went home and checked the mail. Lo and behold, guess what was in his mailbox? A JURY SUMMONS! (Insert dramatic music here!)
Bringing it in the next day to show Carla Rea and Morty, Mike was very suspicious of the summons and wanted to know if there was someone they could call to verify the summons.
Luckily, judge pro tem and lawyer Colleen McCarty called into the show to talk more about the scam and confirmed that Mike indeed had been summoned for jury duty.
All in all, Colleen pointed out some interesting things about performing your civic duty and how to know it’s NOT a scam.
