Las Vegas Aces Record Compared To Championship Years
The last two seasons, the Las Vegas Aces record looked more like the team had a cheat code. In 2023, the team only lost 6 games all regular season. They went on to win their second title. The year prior they won their first WNBA championship with only 10 losses during the regular season. In 2021? Only 8 losses and came close to getting the title.
This year, the Las Vegas Aces record is looking a lot more pedestrian. So we decided to take a look at the team’s record versus the prior years up until this point. It isn’t a perfect comparison because the WNBA has added more and more games every year. So we will let the winning percentage do the talking.
Compared To Prior Years, The Las Vegas Aces Record Is Coming Back To Earth
So lets go into the way back machine to compare the Las Vegas Aces record this year with records of past years through August 25th, the writing of this article. Are things as bad as they seem?
In the 2021 season, the Las Vegas Aces record was 17-7 by August 25th for a winning percentage of .708. The team had a double bye into the playoffs with coach and NBA legend Bill Laimbeer.
In the 2022 season, the Las Vegas Aces record was 26-10 by August 25th (see, more games) for a winning percentage of .722 under their first year with coach Becky Hammon. They’d go on to win the whole damn thing.
The 2023 season was a beast. The Las Vegas Aces record was an astounding 30-5 at this point of the season. That’s a scorching .857 winning percentage. They’d only lose one more the rest of the season and went on to repeat.
That brings us to this year. the Las Vegas Aces record in 2024 thus far is 18-11. The winning percentage is a far gloomier .621. It was almost worse after Sunday’s game against the Chicago Sky came down to the wire.
The team finds themselves in 3rd place in the Western Conference and 5th overall in the league. Definitely a far cry from seasons past.
This article isn’t to say that the team sucks now. No way! The Las Vegas Aces are a powerhouse. But, just like Cinderella, the coach has to become a pumpkin eventually. Here’s hoping the women can get it together and find those slippers for a crack at a three-peat.
