Martha Stewart Shirt Folding Hack That Made Audience Gasp
One of the biggest pains for anyone isn’t the act of putting the laundry into the washing machine, but it is taking it out of the dryer in time to fold things and avoid wrinkles. It is the bane of my existence, and probably yours as well. But my life changed after watching Late Night With Conan O’Brien many years ago. It was there that I learned the Martha Stewart shirt folding hack.
Video of the moment can be found here and the audience quite literally gasps when they see the playing-like-he’s-dumb Conan do it on the first try. All of a sudden, my world had changed. Forever, I will do it this way.
Usually to get lines that are “that crisp”, you’d need a folding board. I know this because I worked for a few months as a stock room boy at American Eagle. I wasn’t beautiful enough for the front, but I became very cozy with the folding board which I hated more than life itself.
Here’s How To Do The Martha Stewart Shirt Folding Hack
So if you would like to fold your t-shirts in a uniform and beautiful way, without doing the “I have three double chins” pinch technique, listen carefully. This is the secret to the Martha Stewart shirt folding hack.
- Get a t-shirt.
- Lay the t-shirt on a flat surface, preferably a table. You can do this on your bed, but you’ll run the risk of pinching your sheets later.
- With one hand, pinch the t-shirt at the corner of the neck hole of the t-shirt.
- With the other hand, pinch half way down the shirt, along the invisible line down the shirt from where your first hand is pinching.
- With your first hand, continue pinching the neck hole of the shirt and carry it down the same invisible line to the bottom of the shirt.
- Your crossed hands? Continue pinching, and uncross them. You should see a perfectly crisp line.
- Use the table to fold against and fold to the hanging sleeve. You’ll be left with a perfectly folded shirt.
May your tomorrows be better than your yesterdays with this Martha Stewart shirt folding hack. Or, you know, you could just hang them if you have the space. That works too.
