Here Is When The Tropicana Implosion Will Happen
It is an experience that is uniquely Las Vegas. While many cities try to preserve their history, Las Vegas seeks to wipe it off the map in the most magnificent way humanly possible. Stardust is dust, Riviera is erased and now the Tropicana implosion is next.
We have known for a while that the Tropicana Las Vegas would be going the way of the dodo to make way for the soon to be Las Vegas Athletics. There were some questions as to whether there would be a Tropicana implosion given how close it is to the airport… but is there any other way?
Circle October 9th For The Tropicana Implosion
Get ready for a massive – and explosive – celebration! Bally’s Corporation announced that the former legendary casino will be going up in smoke in an overnight spectacle.
In the wee morning hours of Wednesday, October 9th at 2:30am, the Tropicana implosion will take place. It will be preceded by a celebration of sorts, with a massive fireworks display from the Grucci people (who are known for doing the biggest displays around the country).
There will also be a drone show around the property. So while the grand finale is on Wednesday, the fun might get started late night on Tuesday, October 8th.
When Will The Las Vegas Athletics And New Casino Be Built?
Now that we are officially about to see the Tropicana implosion, when will the replacement be ready at the corner of Trop and Las Vegas Boulevard?
Well, it could be a while.
At the very least, we know that the Athletics Major League Baseball franchise remains steadfast in saying the stadium will be ready for the 2028 season. But the surrounding casino is more up in the air.
Tropicana Las Vegas is owned by Bally’s Corporation who have been facing some financial headwinds. They were just purchased by their largest stockholder, Standard General. It was already looking as though Bally’s plan to build a casino that flanked the baseball property was getting slowed down given issues in other markets that needed tending to.
With new ownership, either Standard General may develop the land, or sell the blank slate to another operator. It’s only some of the most valuable real estate in the country.
