New Art Museum Coming To Las Vegas
To the untrained eye, it seemed like Las Vegas was lacking culture. Where are the museums? Where is the fine arts? Well as the years have gone on, the city has been turning heads. Now news of a new art museum coming to Las Vegas that will permanently create a bastion of the arts in the heart of the valley.
On Wednesday morning, the Las Vegas City Council voted to sell 1.5 acres of land under the likely value they would get on the open market to museum backers to build what will eventually become the Las Vegas Museum of Art. The location would be just east of Symphony Park, near The Smith Center For The Performing Arts.
The two main backers behind the project are no strangers to Las Vegas.
Big Name Support Behind New Art Museum Coming To Las Vegas
Elaine Wynn is a well known lover of the arts. She serves as the co-chair of the Los Angeles County Museum Of Art and is very serious about bringing Fine Art to Las Vegas.
Roger Thomas is also a big supporter of the new art museum coming to Las Vegas. He is one of the most influential interior designers in the world, having worked on all of the Wynn projects, which connects him with Elaine.
The incredibly interesting architecture of the 90,000 square foot building will be coming from the brain of famed architect Francis Kéré, who is highly regarded in his field. The building itself will be a work of art, housing works of art.
They Are Already Quite On Their Way To Fully Funding The Project
While it is projected that the new art museum coming to Las Vegas will run in the neighborhood of $150-200 million, it appears as though fundraising has already reached half of its goal. The rest will be raised using donors, grants, sponsors and the like – not unlike The Smith Center. In contrast, that venue cost nearly half a billion dollars.
The new venue is hoped to be open for visitors in 2028.
