Child Care Assistance In Nevada To End For Some Next Month
Have kids and you know the cost of taking care of them is absolutely mind blowing. A lot of people have been depending on child care assistance in Nevada, but come October 1st, the laws in the state will be changing and some people receiving support today may not be.
COVID had amplified things when it came to child care assistance in Nevada. The number of people that could qualify for the program provided by the Child Care and Development Program (part of the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services) shot up. A family of four could make up to $76,000 a year and get a child care subsidy.
That was incredibly helpful when it came to making sure first responders and essential workers were able to leave the house and get to work in the thick of the pandemic. But unfortunately for those who have benefitted from it for years now, the time of COVID-era additional subsidies is going away.
Amount You Can Make To Get Child Care Assistance In Nevada Getting Lopped In Half
It seems like the cost of, well, everything is coming up at once. Here’s another one. The amount an existing family can make will be dropping from $76,000 a year to 49 percent of the state’s median income, which is $47,053 a year. That’s a big drop and that’s not even the worst of it.
For new applicants, they’ll have to make under 41 percent of the state median income or $39,371 a year. Try taking care of just yourself at that income, never mind a family of four.
The one saving grace (in the short term) is that those who already have a current and active certificate won’t have their income reevaluated until after that certificate expires.
Got Questions? We Bet You Do
While the Child Care And Development Program believe that the vast majority of the people that take advantage of child care assistance in Nevada will still fall within the new guidelines, for those who fall outside they will be wondering what comes next?
The state will be holding two informational webinars on Tuesday, September 24th. Get more details on their website.
