Aimee’s Thoughts On Beyoncé Being Snubed
It’s heartbreaking for me to think that, once again, Beyoncé was shut out from the CMA Awards. Cowboy Carter, her latest album is a masterpiece. Sure I may be bias because I am a HUGE Beyoncé fan but I thought the album was filled with creativity and genre-blending creative. I don’t think her album has gotten the recognition it deserves and let me tell you she better get it at the Grammys.
For me, it sure feels like history is repeating itself. Remember when she performed at the CMAs with the Chicks years ago and she got boos from some of the people in the audience. Don’t get me wrong… It wasn’t the country artists, it was the fans. The country artists are some of the most humble, welcoming people in the entertainment business.
Beyoncé has always been an artist who can blend genres and do it flawlessly. It’s what makes her work groundbreaking and has been her entire career. But even so, this is likely the very reason why the country music gatekeepers, not the artists, the larger industry – they seem to refuse to embrace her.
It’s especially frustrating because artists like Jelly Roll, Lil Nas X, and Post Malone (I am Jelly’s biggest fan PS) have been welcomed with open arms and they push boundaries too. But when Beyoncé steps into the country world it feels like there is a wall built specifically to keep her out.
I am sure there was so much work that went into her album. It’s not that she’s not respected by her peers, it’s the industry that seems reluctant to see her be a part of their world. It’s not about the album or her performance it’s the pattern that is the saddest.
From a die-hard fan, Beyoncé deserved better. But I am still happy for everyone who was nominated. I don’t want to take away from them.
