Rumors Say Proposed Las Vegas NBA Arena Moving Locations
When we first heard the news, we were pretty amped. Not only was Oak View Group planning on building a Las Vegas NBA ready arena, but it was going to be off “Strip” and easily accessible for locals at Blue Diamond and Interstate 15, and they were going to privately fund the whole thing!
Well, that gameplan seems to be changing.
Kiss The Las Vegas NBA Arena Project Goodbye?
It started with a tweet from LasVegasLocally on X/Twitter.
“Oak View Group’s $10 billion NBA-ready arena and entertainment district, planned for the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Blue Diamond Road, is probably “dead” according to a well-connected source,” said LasVegasLocally.
It hurts. We knew All Net Arena was definitely never happening, but this one stung. After all, Oak View Group are the people behind other major projects including the Climate Pledge Arena where the Seattle Kraken play. They aren’t supposed to break our hearts. This was supposed to be real.
Alas, if you are to believe the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the deal is indeed done and it is over the cost of the land. This is the same land that is supposed to have the Brightline West train stop to head towards Rancho Cucamonga. Now they will be arriving to, what seems like, dirt.
Enter Rio
Ah yes, Rio. The massive swath of land the “close to the Strip” property is sitting on is begging for development. There were major rumors that the Oakland Athletics would build a stadium at the land there, but that was traded for the Wild Wild West site, which then was swapped for the Trip. The whole thing is dizzying.
Well, rumor has it Rio is in the running for landing the project, which Oak View Group swears is still on, even if the existing land is not.
There is no question that a Las Vegas NBA team is coming. But when – and where – has yet to be seen.
