Robin Lehner No Shows Golden Knights, Releases Statement
Vegas Golden Knights sidelined goalie Robin Lehner is having himself a string of bad years. He got injured and could no longer serve his position after hip and shoulder surgery, then a two year long bankruptcy that has his family beyond stressed. The good thing for Robin is he’s at least still getting paid his salary. Or, at least he was.
According to the Vegas Golden Knights, Robin Lehner has been a no show for his physical to confirm he is still unable to play, and will remain on the long term injured reserve (LTIR). Now the team is seeking guidance from the NHL, potentially looking to get away with not paying him for his final season, saving the team a cool $5 million.
Here’s the crazy part: due to one of his bankruptcy cases, a quarter of that salary would be going to one of the businesses he is in debt to. So, no pay means no help to that business.
Sportsnet, a sports network out of Canada, got a statement from Panda. “All I can say at this time is everyone knows why I couldn’t be there. I am waiting calmly for things to be sorted out.”
Wait, really? Does the team know?
The Robin Lehner Story
It was early 2020 and Chicago Blackhawks goalie Robin Lehner was send to the Vegas Golden Knights in a a trade, where Vegas sent off our backup Malcolm Subban along with prospect defenseman Slava Demin and a second round pick. A solid number two for the team?
Well, as we know he ended up creating a stir in the Vegas Golden Knights. Despite Marc Andre Fleury giving the best season of his career, he was dumped in a pure “salary dump” as the team had over extended itself financially and had to choose. The choice was made to trade Fleury and keep “Panda”. Ask a VGK fan you know, and they are either solidly for or against this decision.
The injury sidelined him, the team has had to pay millions for an inactive goalie and we are still in need between the pipes. Makes you wonder if we should have let Fleury finish out his contract after all?
