NFL Bengals vs. Commanders: A Game for the History Books
Last night something happened in the NFL that hasn’t happened since 1940! For the first time in over 80 years, a game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Washington Commanders ended with ZERO turnovers and ZERO punts! So rare that it sent shockwaves through football fans everywhere.
In a league and game where turnovers and punts are almost inevitable, watching the game go so flawlessly on both ends was like watching history in real time… I guess because it is like history. The discipline the guys showed, and the offensive battle that was seen was nothing short of amazing. Both teams were locked in, clearly. Moving the ball looked easy for both teams. The defense held their ground without giving up any turnovers, and the punters just got to chill on the sideline the whole game and still got paid. It was not a bad day at the office. Am I right?
What makes the stat even more mind-blowing is how rare it is for an NFL game to have not a single turnover and not have to punt the ball away. Football fans know how unpredictable football can be and how week to week you never know what is going to happen. Interceptions, fumbles, turning the ball over and punts are part of the game so when it doesn’t happen it’s wild.
Being a huge football fan and a football mom, it wasn’t just a NFL Monday Night game it was history! It’s cool when we will be able to tell our grandkids I was watching when. To put it in perspective the first NFL game televised was on NBC in 1939 and this happened the next year. This goes to show how many cool things happen in sports.
In a season already full of storylines, this game will certainly stand out. Not only was it an incredible show of talent, but it will also serve as a game for the record books. A rare game that football fans will talk about for years to come.
