Homecoming Made Me Realize Time Is A Theif
Time really does fly, and somehow it goes even faster during the high school years. When you’re a parent watching your high schooler grow up something just hits different. This weekend my oldest went to his second homecoming, and I swear it feels like just yesterday we were picking out his outfit for kindergarten.
Every year is special in different ways but there is something about the high school years. Seeing him become a man and watching him grow up with his best friends is so amazing. Watching my son make some of the best memories of his life is my favorite pastime.
Seeing him dressed up, and looking super sharp with his best friends is always so nice. The group photos were so beautiful, it brought up a mix of emotions for me… On one hand, pride, he looked so grown up and he was having a blast, and on the other hand a little sad because he has grown up so fast. His swagger was different this year for sure and he absolutely didn’t get it from me.
Watching him head out the door this year, I made sure to soak up every detail, the way he was laughing with his friends, making fun of each other as they were taking pictures was so fun to watch. Time is really a thief. You go from holding their hand walking into the first day of kindergarten to adjusting their tie for homecoming in what feels like a blink of an eye.
The thing about these high school years is that they slip by so quickly. I’ve learned that moments like these are worth savoring everything… the small, awkward details, the laughter, and the excitement. I’m sure before I know it, I’ll be standing in the crowd at his graduation, wondering how in the world we got there so fast.
Until then, I’ll cherish these homecoming and high school memories. Even if it means he’s a little embarrassed by my insistence on taking one more picture.
